Case Study Answer
Sarah’s parents have every right to be worried about their daughter. While her nursery may not of notice any differences for Sarah compared to her peers, they should take Sarah’s parents view and observations into consideration and complete a formal observation themselves.
Her parents should speak to their GP and request an onward referral for;
- Speech and Language Therapy to ensure Sarah has support to develop her communication to express herself.
- Referral to the local autism assessment service.
Her parents should adopt autism friendly strategies while waiting for professional input- as these will not do any harm to Sarah. They can seek support from their health visiting team, and also from local charities in the area.
